Welcome. My Name Is Bob Cohen. I’m Running For State Senate.
I’ve lived in Westchester County with my wife for over 20 years. We raised our children in Scarsdale and moved to New Rochelle when our youngest daughter left for college.
Last year, I gave up the relative peace of my real estate and construction business and devoted myself full-time to the task of becoming the representative from the 37th district in Albany. Over eight months of campaigning, I knocked on over 12,000 doors, met thousands of people at train stations, and tried to spread a simple message of fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, and good government.
My message seemed to resonate with the community. I was endorsed by The New York Times, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Former Governor George Pataki, and others. Even though we fell short in 2010, losing by less than 1/2 of 1% of the votes cast, I remain undaunted, and have rededicated myself to the race in 2012.
Our tax burden increases but our schools seem to get worse. Our state pension system is unsustainable and our Medicaid system is the most expensive in the nation. Our state government is a tangle of overlapping bureaucracies, and our representatives refuse to hold themselves accountable with meaningful ethics rules. Our business climate is consistently ranked as the worst of any state, and our businesses respond by leaving for greener pastures — and taking jobs with them.
After three decades of poor political leadership and willful neglect of the state’s finances, we are finally witnessing the consequences. However, we can make New York great again. The first step is admitting that we have a problem; that our leaders have failed us. Until we elect honest men and women who will risk short-term popularity in order to make hard choices, nothing will change.
Thank you for visiting my website. I hope you learn more about what I will do for you as the next State Senator from the 37th district in Westchester. I hope I can count on your support.
